A Positive Quote for Now

Three Quotes That Inspire Me

First is this one by Joel Osteen: "You may have made a lot of wrong choices, but you've made a lot of choices that were right. Focus on your good qualities. Focus on your victories. Get off the treadmill of guilt."

Sometimes when I've been consumed with guilt, I've turned to that quote by Joel Osteen for strength. Today, I've committed it to memory, word for word, so that I can use it as a weapon to fight the feelings of guilt that torture me every now and then.

Second quote is this one by Maya Angelou: "I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better."

That quote by Maya Angelou has helped me see my writing journey in a new light. You see, when I began sharing stories early in this decade, I used to tell loads of lies. I also said some things that I later regretted saying. To this day, I cringe every time I think of some of the things I said in my stories.

But I've now resolved that should I again feel remorseful about some of the things I said, I will turn to that quote by Maya Angelou and remind myself that "I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better."

Last is this one by William Penn: "The secret of happiness is to count your blessings while others are adding up their troubles."

I've found myself remembering that quote several times recently, especially when feeling guilty. It has helped me put things into perspective.

My Redeemer Liveth

As I write this story, I'm listening to Handel's "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth", a beautiful piece of music that makes me think Christ is alive indeed on noting how He guided me to blogging. Okay, let me tell you more.

Growing up, I acquired musical and public speaking skills. I also developed an interest in writing but didn't excel at it. Then after turning 18, I learnt web design and computer programming.

Probably because I came from a humble background, I developed a burning desire to get rich when I was 19. So I attempted to start a business, only for my plans to come to a dead end.

Around that time I was trying to start a business, I joined a close-knit choir of All Saints' Cathedral Nairobi. And wow! Being part of the choir gave me a wonderful sense of belonging.

The beautiful hymns we sang, like "Have You Been to Jesus for the Cleansing Power?", made me interested in the gospel of Christ. I even bought a Bible which I began reading but gave up in the book of Isaiah.

Come August 2008 when I was 20, I went astray at JKUAT where I was pursuing an engineering degree. I like to think that was the time I entered my wilderness years, as the Israelites did when escaping oppression in Egypt.

Boy, wasn't I oppressed! Any fool could control me because of the timidity and confusion I showed, even though I had a good heart. And I wasn't enjoying my engineering course at JKUAT.

Although I've disobeyed God in my wilderness years, I developed a passion for writing, music and public speaking. Then I discovered I could blog.

In 2016, I used my web design and computer programming skills to set up this blog where I share stories, songs and speeches that promote the gospel of Christ. And the blog is like a business because it has adverts.

Hey, have you noted something interesting in my life story? All along, I had been interested in writing, music, public speaking, starting a business and perhaps most importantly, in the gospel of Christ. And I'm now engaging in those interests through blogging. What a miracle!

As I've said, it's Christ who has guided me to be the avid blogger I'm today. That's why Handel's "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth" makes me think Christ is alive indeed. And because He lives, I will not worry about tomorrow.

Bible Quote

"Always be full of joy in the Lord; I say it again, rejoice! Let everyone see that you are unselfish and considerate in all you do... Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything; tell God your needs and don't forget to thank Him for His answers. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand."

~Phillipians 4:4-7 (TLB)
