Hustle and Heart in Kiserian

I also see hawkers sell their items on foot, hawking mundane items like shoes, watches and sandals. Sometime back, I saw a clever young man hawking bananas in advanced manner. How, you ask?
Well, he had a loudspeaker that repeatedly voiced in Swahili a message that went something like thise: "Please promote my business. Buy my bananas so that I don't steal from anyone..."
Unlike such hawkers, some folks in Kiserian are fortunate enough to own motorbikes, locally known bodaboda, on which they carry out their businesses. And the bodaboda business is lucrative because almost every young man I know in Kiserian is now a bodaboda rider.
Other businessmen are even more fortunate to own cars. Just last Saturday, I passed by a minivan whose owner had a loudspeaker that advertised what was on sale in the minivan. The loudspeaker repeatedly boomed, "Carrot, nyanya (tomatoes), cabbages, viazi (potatoes)..."
