Donkeys of Kiserian

A few years ago, I was walking back home from Kiserian Town when I saw a man whip his donkey mercilessly as he stood on the cart it was pulling. And he was whipping it even though it was galloping at full speed.

It was then that I heard one person wonder aloud, "The donkey is running very fast and he is still whipping it. What else does he want it to do? To fly?"

With such needless whipping, I now understand why the donkeys I see in Kiserian usually have wounds all over their bodies, especially on their necks and backs. Boy, don't I feel sorry for them!

Far it be from me to judge the donkey owners but I find it unwise of them not to ensure their donkeys are healthy and well-fed. I mean, aren't donkeys valuable possessions to them like airplanes are to companies like Kenya Airways?

Helping Hands in Kiserian

Picture related to the title of the story
Image from The Power of Giving.

As I was walking in Kiserian Town the other week, a small girl came up to me. I initially thought she wanted to beg for money, but when I stopped to listen to her, all she wanted from me was help crossing the road.

She spoke so tenderly that I had no choice but to help her cross the road. When we were safely on the other side, she uttered a sincere "thank-you" and then dashed off to wherever she was headed.

Then this week, another girl stopped me when I was also in Kiserian Town. She was carrying a baby, and same as the other girl, all she wanted from me was help crossing the road. (What's with girls asking me to help them cross the road?)

Afraid that she could be taking advantage of me, I asked her if she was in the company of adults standing next to her. When she said "no", I held her hand and guided her safely across the road.

The girl was beautiful, but not bright enough to thank me for helping her cross the road. I felt useful all the same, and proud that she had seen in me a good man she could rely on. Either way, Kiserian Town's got some polite kids.

Bible Quote

"Always be full of joy in the Lord; I say it again, rejoice! Let everyone see that you are unselfish and considerate in all you do... Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything; tell God your needs and don't forget to thank Him for His answers. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand."

~ Phillipians 4:4-7 (TLB)

Just for Laughs

There was this drunkard called Azoge who loved drinking at Josiah's Bar. On being told a certain Hon. Nanga was flying to America to be conferred a law degree so that he could be admitted to the bar, Azoge replied, "Why fly all the way to America to be admitted to the bar while you can get into Josiah's Bar any time?"

My Supreme Desire

To borrow Elbert Hubbard's words, my supreme desire is to radiate health, cheerfulness, calm courage and goodwill. I wish to live without fear, hate, guilt, worry and jealousy; to be honest, natural, confident, clean in mind and body - ready to say "I don't know" if it be so; to treat all men with kindness; and to meet any loss, failure, criticism and rejection unabashed and unafraid.

You Matter

"Always be yourself. Never try to hide who you are. The only shame is to have shame. Always stand up for what you believe in. Always question what other people tell you. Demonstrating His Love

Talk to people in a way that they never forget the excellence of your words, the love and grace of Christ that you communicated. It's how God wants us to love."
