A Marriage Role Model

A writer of some verses in the book of Proverbs asked God to give him neither poverty nor riches. He just wanted enough money to meet his needs because he feared poverty would make him steal, thus dishonoring God, while riches would make him forget God.

Unlike that writer, I don't think I can ever forget God if I became rich. It's just my nature to involve God in all that I do. So what I've asked God, among other things, is a marriage that will last "till death do us part".

A marriage role model I've are Mr. & Mrs. Gikonyo, who own a home not far from ours. They have been our family friends for years. Once in 1997 when they offered us a lift in their pickup, I liked something about the pickup.

And Mr. Gikonyo can really talk, which is why I told Dad one can never have a dull moment in Mr. Gikonyo's presence. He sometimes reminds me of Andy Capp, a cartoon character that a local paper prints.

Two months ago, Mr. & Mrs. Gikonyo visited us. I was pleased to hear Mrs. Gikonyo call me by my name. She is such a sweet old lady. That she has stayed with her husband all these years is why they are one of my marriage role models.
