After leaving the University of Nairobi in 2011, I did all I could to meet the woman of my dreams: scouring the internet, attending social events and putting an ad in the papers. I even posted this message on Facebook in December 2015:
IMPORTANT NOTICE

I WILL BE VISITING THE KAREN BLIXEN MUSEUM TOMORROW . . . ANY YOUNG LADY WHO APPRECIATES ART AND DELIGHTS IN INTERESTING CONVERSATIONS WISHING TO ACCOMPANY ME, HOLLA BACK.

When my friend Moses Aran read that message, he joked that I was smoking bhang. But I was serious about meeting someone. No young lady responded to my appeal though, so I visited the museum alone.

I'm however glad that my efforts to meet my dream woman didn't work out. Why, you ask? For one, I've had a chance to know myself and the world better as a single man. Then, I've not been loaded enough to spoil a woman.

Now that I know God's timing is best, I'm striving to be kind, bold and diligent as I wait on God to connect me to the woman of my dreams. As I wait, I will do what waiters do: serve!

The Brute Relative

There was this relative who visited us in the '90s and once in the year 2000. I can't remember his name and face clearly. But he was a light-skinned man who hated me for no reason.

One evening in 1997 when I told him, half in jest, that he wasn't old and that it was just his legs that were long, he went mad. I had to flee from him to avoid his full wrath.

Then when he visited us again in 2000, he embarrassed me in front of a brother when he saw black marks on my hands and accused me of not bathing. And I bathed.

Later on, a schoolmate told the black marks on my hands had been caused by drawing water from a borehole. He was right because I watered our vegetable garden with water I drew from our borehole.

Anyway, I don't what happened to that male relative because he has never visited us again since the year 2000. But he was one brute of a man - a perfect specimen fit for display in prison and other hellish places.
