The Day I Dodged the Harvard Bullet

The iconic Harvard College. Conan O'Brien, a Harvard alumnus, warned a graduating class they were in for a lifetime of "And you went to Harvard?" Photo credit: David Mbau.

Last year, I went to produce a song with Lenny, who I hadn't met before. I alighted near a road under another road, thinking it was where he had told me to do so. But when he came for me, he couldn't find me.

We kept asking each other where we were, which raised his hackles. He then instructed me to hand over my phone to a bodaboda rider. The one he talked to asked me to get on his motorbike, and off we went.

When we finally met Lenny, he told me the road under another road where I had alighted near is called an underpass. Then he told me a footbridge was the structure next to us for pedestrians to cross to the other side of the highway.

Apparently, he had told me to alight near a footbridge and I mistook an underpass for one, a mistake that would have left him wondering "And you went to Harvard?" if Harvard hadn't rejected me in 2008 and again in 2010.

Desert Blessings

A story is told in the Bible about how the Israelites went to Egypt in search of greener pastures, only to end up working in slavery for Egyptians. They eventually cried out to God for deliverance out of Egypt.

God heard their cries and sent His servant Moses to lead them out of slavery to the land He promised their fathers. And He met all their needs as Moses led them in the wilderness.

He dropped manna from heaven for them to eat. And when they became thirsty, He brought water out of rocks for them to drink. So they never went hungry or thirsty when journeying through that desolate land.

That story teaches us that where God leads, He provides. So when He gives us a dream, we should expect Him to provide what we need to accomplish it. And when we don't get something we want, it's because we don't need it.

Bible Quote

"Always be full of joy in the Lord; I say it again, rejoice! Let everyone see that you are unselfish and considerate in all you do... Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything; tell God your needs and don't forget to thank Him for His answers. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand."

~ Phillipians 4:4-7 (TLB)

Just for Laughs

There was this drunkard called Azoge who loved drinking at Josiah's Bar. On being told a certain Hon. Nanga was flying to America to be conferred a law degree so that he could be admitted to the bar, Azoge replied, "Why fly all the way to America to be admitted to the bar while you can get into Josiah's Bar any time?"

My Supreme Desire

To borrow Elbert Hubbard's words, my supreme desire is to radiate health, cheerfulness, calm courage and goodwill. I wish to live without fear, hate, guilt, worry and jealousy; to be honest, natural, confident, clean in mind and body - ready to say "I don't know" if it be so; to treat all men with kindness; and to meet any loss, failure, criticism and rejection unabashed and unafraid.

"Always be yourself. Never try to hide who you are. The only shame is to have shame. Always stand up for what you believe in. Always question what other people tell you.
