Part 2: Bearing Good Fruit

Jesus Christ promises us in the Bible that if we remain in Him and He in us, we will bear good fruit. I believe what Christ does is make us forgive ourselves and others and replaces our guilt and hate with love for ourselves and for our fellow human beings.

I also believe the kingdom of God which the Bible asks us to first seek so that other things may be added to us is the love of ourselves and of our fellow human beings. That's probably why Pastor Rick Warren wrote this prayer:
God, whether I get anything else done today, I want to make sure that I spend time loving You and loving other people - because that's what life is all about. I don't want to waste this day.
It has dawned on me that the reason my blog hasn't become a hit since I rebranded it in 2016 is because I haven't loved myself and my fellow human beings as I ought to. Believe you me, I have wallowed in hate, guilt, jealousy and selfishness.

Hate is one vice I have always despised ever since I was nineteen in 2007. I even came up with a quote that said, "Hatred is an acid that corrodes our happiness. It is a wiremesh that imprisons our creativity."

But you know what? In spite of despising hate, I have struggled to free myself from it over the years. Even as late as last year, I hated some people. No wonder I haven't set the world on fire with my blog.

In 2016 when I started writing truthful and original stories after rebranding this blog to what it looks like now, I knew becoming a great writer requires a lot of hard work. I therefore put in a lot of effort in honing my writing skills.

For a long time though, it didn't occur to me that writing well takes more than hard work. It also requires that we love people, and ourselves too! We can't hate someone and expect ourselves to write riveting stories.

Sadly, when I struggled to keep writing riveting stories in 2018, I thought some alcohol would loosen up my mental gears. So I bought beer to drink. But it didn't enhance my writing creativity.

I have realized it was not alcohol I needed to write creatively but getting connected with Jesus and remaining in Him and He in me. How glad I am that I finally did so mid last year!

Connecting with Jesus has freed me from the hate, guilt, jealousy and selfishness that used to assault my soul. I am now more consistently happy and clear-headed, a frame of mind that has made me enjoy blogging daily.

Now that I am connected with Jesus, I trust that He will continually give me bloggable ideas till my last days on Earth. Or to borrow the words of Philipians 1:6, I am confident that Jesus will carry the good work He began in me on to completion until the day He will come for me.

My beloved reader, I urge you to also connect with Jesus so that you can bear the good fruit He promises to those who remain in Him. If you do so, the other things you desire (health, wealth and happiness) will be added to you, this I am sure.

Doing Things Out of Love

Picture related to the title of the story
With permission, I have extracted this picture-quote from Success Consciousness. All rights reserved worldwide.

Most people, I have realized, start businesses with the sole intention of making money. Even some preachers, I am sad to say, preach in order to make money. But a life spent solely on gaining riches leaves so much to be desired.

A fulfilling life is achieved by applying our talents in work that makes us feel we are making a positive contribution in society. If we lead such a life, money will come naturally to us, as some truly successful people have said.

But hey! I understand why people are so eager to make money. It's because they need to put food on the table and pay bills. And I won't lie to you, making money from our talents can take years as we perfect our craft and build connections.

That's why it's so important to identify the talents in our children and encourage their development. The talents could be singing, writing, playing soccer, working with numbers, tinkering with machines, playing a musical instrument, being accepting of others or just being nice.

If we encourage our children to develop their talents, we will save them from the empty life of pursuing riches for riches sake when they become adults. We will also make them more responsible because developing a talent builds character.

Besides starting businesses solely to make money, another mistake people make when looking for the essential dollar is manipulating others. They will tell lies, exaggerate information or pretend to be something they are not.

I believe true success is achieved when we do things out of love, whether we are businessmen, politicians or clergymen. We should not only love what we do but also those we serve with our goods or services.

What I mean is, if you are a businessman, run a business because you want to help people with your goods or services. If you are a politician, vie for a political seat because you desire to bring development. If you are a clergyman, preach because you want people to live in love and in truth.

As for me, I am glad to have finally found a job I love (blogging) because it makes use of my talents and connects me with people. I will keep doing it with love. Or to borrow the words of Maya Angelou, I will keep doing it with some passion, some compassion, some humor and some style.

Bible Quote

"Always be full of joy in the Lord; I say it again, rejoice! Let everyone see that you are unselfish and considerate in all you do... Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything; tell God your needs and don't forget to thank Him for His answers. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand."

~Phillipians 4:4-7 (TLB)

My Supreme Desire

Although I'd like to be rich and famous, my supreme desire is to be radiant: to radiate health, cheerfulness, calm courage and goodwill. I wish to live without fear, hate, guilt, worry and jealousy; to be honest, natural, confident, clean in mind and body - ready to say "I do not know" if it be so; to treat all men with kindness; and to meet any loss, failure, criticism and rejection unabashed and unafraid.
